Tax-Free Shopping and Free Kids’ Activities at Sikeston Outlet Stores

Sikeston, Missouri - One of area retailers’ busiest times of the year is coming soon—Back-to-School shopping accompanied by Missouri’s Tax-Free Weekend starting at 12:01am Friday August 4th and will run through Sunday August 6th.

Back-to-School items such as clothing, school supplies, computers and other items defined by the Missouri statute will be exempt from state sales tax.  Also, this year the city of Sikeston has elected to join efforts with the state and not require city taxes during this period for these qualifying purchases and Scott County has elected to do the same.

“It is really a great deal for our customers”, says Kyla Evans, Marketing Director for the Sikeston Outlet Stores.  “Not only are you getting a great deal on back-to-school items such as clothing and footwear for the entire family, you also pay no tax at all thanks to the City of Sikeston and Scott County!”

According to the Missouri Department of Revenue’s website there are a number of cities and counties in the state that are electing to opt out of the tax-free holiday with Cape Girardeau and Poplar Bluff both on that list.

And if the tax-free weekend isn’t enough, the Sikeston Outlet Stores is hosting a “Back-to-School Extravaganza” on Saturday, August 5th from 10am-3pm which will include free activities for the kids to enjoy.

Evans explains, “We are going to have lots of fun during our Back-to-School event!  We have split the vendors up into three different zones if you will.  First there will be a “Kids’ Fun Zone” which will include the Lazy L Petting Zoo and inflatable games plus face painting.  Next, we will have a “Kids’ Healthy Zone” where our partners at SEMO Health Network, the YMCA of Southeast Missouri and Compassion Church are going to provide free information about their services along with games and healthy snacks and water for the kids.  Last, we will have demonstrations by our local Miner Fire and Police Departments along with South Scott County Ambulance District and Midwest Truck in our “Kids’ Safety Zone”.

Evans states, “We are hoping to not only provide an obvious place for savings during the Back-to-School time, but also a fun experience for the entire family.”  Food will be on hand to purchase from the Shriners and also Frozen Scoops and More, so plan to make a day out of it!
